I own a 1958 Mercedes-Benz 180A. After a 10-year restoration journey, completed in 2023, the car won multiple awards and is regularly driven. Its smooth 1.9L engine and classic Benz virtues make it both reliable and a joy to drive.
I’ve had my 1958 Mercedes-Benz 180A since 2000. My father bought the car from the original owner and gave it to me as a school graduation gift. After a few years of having fun with the car, I decided I wanted to bring back the car to as original condition and thus began the restoration journey which took just over 10 years. After many phases, my Mercedes was restored by my team at home and was ready in January 2023. The Merc went on to win a number of awards for restoration and has seen regular use post restoration. The car typifies the Benz virtues of the 1950s, being extremely well engineered, reliable and easy to drive and at the same time providing a very comfortable ride. The Ponton generation was the first entirely new series of cars produced by Daimler Benz post WWII. It was a hit both in its home market and overseas. Today, it is widely acknowledged that the success of the Ponton models saved Daimler Benz and enabled the hallowed brand to establish itself as one of the foremost car manufacturers in the world. My car’s 1.9 litre 4 cylinder engine is unusually smooth and enables the car to keep up in modern traffic. My car, my pride.
